Thomastik-Infeld JF324 Jazz Flats – Short Scale Bass (43–106)

Thomastik-Infeld JF324 Jazz Flatwound bass strings are designed for short scale bass guitars, offering exceptional flexibility, warmth, and sensitivity inspired by traditional jazz and upright bass tone.

Scale: Short scale (ideal for ~32″ scale instruments)
Gauges: .043 – .056 – .070 – .106

These strings feature a true round steel core, allowing the string to vibrate freely with no preferred motion axis. A polished nickel flatwound outer wrap delivers a smooth, supple feel with a focused, warm response and minimal finger noise.

A distinctive silk inlay between the core and outer winding increases flexibility and gently damps excessive overtones, contributing to the rich, organic tone and responsive feel that Jazz Flats are known for. Colored silk-wrapped ends secure the windings and enhance long-term stability.

JF324 Jazz Flats are especially valued by players seeking upright-inspired warmth, articulate fundamentals, and exceptional dynamic sensitivity in a short-scale bass format. Each string is hand-wound and individually inspected to meet Thomastik-Infeld’s exacting standards.

These are a premium choice for jazz, roots, and expressive players who prioritize feel, longevity, and tonal depth over conventional brightness.

Absolutely the smoothest feeling flats ever. AND not dead like my other faves, the GHS precision flats. The TIs are not metallic sounding by any means. They have a beautiful mid range thump. So easy to play.

    The best flats I’ve tried.

Posted by Jason on Oct 24th 2019

Sound fantastic, very comfortable, and the low tension encourages me to play with less force, which seems to work out nicely. Warning - they are much longer (around 35 inches from ball to silk) than the “short scale” implies, but they are one of a few flats that can wrap around the tuner without breaking. Great customer support from Jason made this a fantastic experience. Looking forward to buying again from Gimmesomestrings.

I have to start this off by saying that GimmeSomeStrings is doing it right! Great website, GREAT prices and fast dependable delivery. Thank you all for exceptional service! I recently laid out the cash for an all original, immaculate condition 1973 Gibson Les Paul Triumph Bass. Got it, plugged it in, and it just sounded dull and unimpressive. Replaced the strings with several other brands and it sounded better. Until I put a set of Thomastik Flatwounds on, I just didn't have the sound that I was looking for. With this set of strings, I had clarity of the highs, that deep warmth of the lows, and sweetness everywhere in between! Like Jeff said, these strings will make a bass sing!!! You might pay a few dollars more for Thomastik-Infeld, but once you try a set of these you will never go back to the cheap stuff!!!

Thomastik Infeld short scale flat wound bass strings

I already have Thomastik flatwounds on my long scale bass and I think they sound fantastic so I bought this short scale set for my Guild Starfire bass. Other brands of short scale strings sometimes don't fit the Starfire (too short, because the Starfire scale is a little longer than the usual short scale basses) but these fit perfectly and sound fantastic as expected. These strings provide a sound similar to an upright acoustic bass as opposed to the sound of round wounds that sound more metallic.
